The bread industry in the UK was significantly impacted by World War II. As a result of the war, baking schools were forced to close, leading to a shortage of skilled bakers once the war ended. In order to meet the global demand for bread, new methods were developed, such as the addition of chemicals to dough, the use of premixes, and the implementation of specialized machinery. Unfortunately, these advancements led to the near extinction of traditional baking methods, as they were considered unnecessary and financially unsustainable. Consequently, there were only a few traditional bakeries remaining during this period. However, we are proud to be one of those rare bakeries that revives the art of traditional artisan bread, bringing it back to your tables.
